Your body is your biography and the hot flashes, exhausted energy crashes, bloating after meals and other midlife health challenges have not arrived because of what you ate last week but due to everything that has happened to you over your lifetime.

I know that busy schedules and the midlife juggling act of family, home, work and peri-menopause will play its part in making demands for improved nutrition in your diet. We are going to talk about your cravings, sleep schedule, pregnancies if you have children, your childhood health story and the glass of wine you drink at night. Why Midlife Women?
“Mid-life”, “The Middle Years”, “Forty Plus”
… here we all are.
After giving birth to three kids in three years during the 90’s, and running through most of my life on empty, I returned to nutrition school in 2013 exhausted and depleted.
I was experiencing adrenal failure, blood sugar and hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, sleeplessness, anxiety and I was overweight - a hot mess! The positive changes I made for my own health using only food and lifestyle choices is what I want for all women.
Fact: After forty, the strategies and tricks that you dialed in to feel good about your body in your twenties, just don’t work anymore.
Cutting back on calories can mess with hormone balance as you approach menopause - restriction will actually begin to slow your metabolism. Logging hours of cardio can leave you exhausted and counter intuitively rob you of your sleep. Did you know - that in midlife, a womans’ body actually responds to deep nurturing and self-care? This is not about buying a new scarf or lippy or booking a mani-pedi with your sister. It’s about learning to really listen to your body.
You have walked thousands of miles to get to this point in your life. You have likely been through the miracle of pregnancy and childbirth and caring for kids when they get sick (not to mention playing the role of OCD PTA/dance/soccer Mom). You have given of yourself to your family, your job and every other crazy-making schedule, but did you ever stop to think of how your body has generously been by your side supporting you through it all?
Midlife is the perfect time to pause and take notice our relationship with our body. It’s an essential time to refocus on feeding ourselves not just for fuel but as a means of healing our relationship with our body. It’s the perfect time learn how to naturally energize ourselves and discover lasting and loving body confidence. I think of “midlife” as a homecoming for self – a time when you can generously gift yourself the deepest and most nourishing attention and you can do it through the power of nutrition!
I want to give you full permission to get off the merry-go-round of diet and restriction. I know from experience that it is not too late for you to feel energized, happy and comfortable in your own skin. The most intimate relationship we’ll ever experience – is the one we have with ourselves. The food we put in our mouths on a daily basis is a concrete expression of how we feel about and love ourselves. You CAN support your gorgeous midlife body into optimal vibrant health and turn back the clock by learning how to heal. As you move into this next exciting chapter of your life - It’s time to love yourself deeply ladies!
